Watrilya McMillian carried “He’s Holy” for nearly 20 years before she was finally able to complete and release it.
The song came from a personal place of repentance, faith, and reflection. Watrilya described it as a reminder of God’s holiness and of the way our lives should reflect Him. By the time she reached out to me, the song already had history behind it. My role was to hear what she had been carrying and help shape it into a finished recording without losing the heart of it.
Bringing the Song Into the Studio
We developed the production with programmed drums and live guitars, giving the song enough movement and strength while keeping the worshipful message at the center.
Watrilya recorded her lead vocals locally at Vivid Tempo Studio. Her daughters, Porsche’, Revan, and Recia, joined her for the background vocals. Their voices blended naturally, and that family connection became an important part of the finished sound.
After the song was released, Watrilya shared:
“I’m so thankful to God for allowing the completion and release of this song after 20 years! I had to repent for my procrastination with this song and many other things God has planted in my spirit.”
She also described how the production helped enhance and bring new life to the vision she originally heard.
For me, this project was not simply about producing another worship song. It was about helping Watrilya finish something that had remained with her for many years. Sometimes the most important part of a production is not creating a completely new direction. It is listening carefully enough to recognize what has already been placed inside the song and helping the artist finally bring it forward.
“He’s Holy” became a completed record, but it also marked the end of a long period of waiting for Watrilya. The song she had carried for nearly two decades was finally able to be heard.
