“Wisdom” came together as a collaboration between Gigi Wheeler and Steph Nichole, with Gigi leading the song and Steph adding another vocal texture to the record.
The song is based on Psalm 19, but musically, we did not approach it like a traditional worship arrangement. The direction leaned more toward a slow neo-R&B groove, with enough space for the lyrics and vocals to remain at the center.
Finding the Right Feel
I built the production around a relaxed pocket and brought in live bass to give the track more warmth and movement. The goal was not to make the arrangement overly busy. It needed to feel smooth and soulful while still supporting the message of the song.
Gigi and Steph recorded their vocals locally and sent the files back to me. From there, I brought the performances into the session, worked through the vocal production, and completed the mix and master.
What stood out to me about the record was how naturally their voices worked together. Gigi carried the main direction of the song, while Steph’s vocal added another layer without pulling attention away from the lead.
This was a fully remote project, but the process itself was straightforward. I produced the instrumental, they recorded the vocals where they were, and I brought everything together for the finished record.
“Wisdom” is one of those songs where the production did not need to compete with the message. The live bass, laid-back groove, and vocal blend gave the song its character while leaving room for the words to speak.
